What is the U-Pass?

The U-Pass card is a mandatory transit pass for full-time students at the University of Ottawa, Saint Paul University, Carleton University, and Algonquin College. It provides unlimited access to the STO and OC Transpo networks during the academic semester.

U-Pass validity based on full-time session

The U-Pass is valid during full-time academic semesters;
The U-Pass expires at the end of the session. Here are the validity dates:
- Fall session: September 1^st to December 31^st;
- Winter session: January 1^st to April 30^th;
- Summer session: May 1^st to August 31^st.
If you are registered as a full-time student for both the fall and winter sessions, your U-Pass will expire on May 1^st, at the end of the winter session.
- If you are enrolled in the full-time summer semester, your U-Pass remains valid;
- If you are not enrolled in the summer semester, your U-Pass will expire on May 1^st. You will then need to purchase a Multi card or another transit fare to travel on the STO and OC Transpo networks during the summer.

Student transit fares available during the summer

Students aged 20 and under

Monthly pass at $71/month;
Electronic wallet (e-wallet) at $2.80 per trip

Students aged 21 and over

STO Cam-Puce package at $349.50 from May 1^st to August 31^st.
Regular monthly pass at $116.50/month;
Electronic wallet (e-wallet) at $4.00 per trip

Proof of Full-Time Studies

To benefit from a student fare during the summer session, you must present:

The tuition fee invoice to confirm that the “U-PASS fee” appears for the winter term of 2026.
- The student card is not accepted as proof.
A piece of photo identification.

These documents are required at the service point in order to obtain your student Multi card or a new student fare package.

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for a student fare, you must opt for the regular fare.
